IFFA resonance shows: Traditional company for slaughtering and conveying technology back on track

At Banss, something is moving again: barely half a year after the takeover of the traditional manufacturer of slaughtering and conveyor systems, the signs point to growth. “The IFFA was a very clear signal that not only the regular customers are loyal to us, but that there is also great interest among new clients,” says Jürgen Weiß, the managing partner of the new Banss GmbH.

Last year, the more than 140-year-old manufacturer of slaughtering and conveying technology had to declare bankruptcy on its own responsibility. At the beginning of 2019, Jürgen Weiss, the owner of JWE-Baumann, took over the company. Banss, based in the Hessian Biedenkopf, and the JWE Baumann GmbH from Aalen in Baden-Württemberg, Germany, whose scalding and dehairing machines are in demand worldwide, are still managed as independent companies, but pursue a common strategy. At the IFFA in Frankfurt, the internationally most important trade fair for the meat industry, the two partner companies appeared for the first time with a common stand. “Although we had doubled the area compared to the last IFFA, it was sometimes really tight on the stand,” reports Jürgen Weiß – especially when a group of 27 from Korea with decision makers from various companies were informed about the offer.

The trade fair analysis showed that the hopes for synergy effects have been confirmed by the Banss takeover. “We were able to see clearly that each brand benefits from the dealer network of the other company,” says Jürgen Weiß, “and it has also become clear that our growing joint product portfolio appeals to new interested parties.” Together, JWE-Baumann and Banss are able to serve customers of all sizes from the craft business to the industrial scale. “The trend clearly goes to the system installation,” says Jürgen Weiß, “and we have seen many benefits at IFFA in many ways, such as combining JWE machines with conveyor technology or CO2 stunning systems from Banss.”

The enormous response at IFFA has already led to the first orders. In the coming months, it is now time to turn the many other inquiries and business initiatives into concrete orders. “We still have a lot of work ahead of us,” says Jürgen Weiß, Managing Director of Banss and JWE-Baumann, “but the prospects are extremely positive. We were obviously able to initiate the U-turn at Banss much faster than we had hoped.”
